A family are calling for people to stop referring to terror group Islamic State as ISIS to avoid confusion with their eight-year-old's name.
Frank and Sheridan Leskien - from Bexley in Sydney's south - named their daughter, Isis, after the Egyptian goddess who was portrayed as a model wife and mother, and is the patroness of nature and magic.
Now the name is associated with the terror organisation Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) - also known as Islamic State - who have claimed responsibility for beheading U.S. and British nationals on camera.

Tinubu calls for revolution

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says there is a need for the country to undergo a “common sense” revolution.
Tinubu, who is a national leader of the All Progressives Congress said the many years of misrule by successive Peoples Democratic Party presidents had continued to sink the country further into crisis.
The former governor said this in a statement titled ‘A Return to Decency’, on Monday.
He described the 16 years of PDP rule at the federal level as a period of steady decline into disaster.
He said, “The longer they rule, the less benefit the people derive. Nigeria now needs a ‘common sense revolution,’ a revolution that calls forth a return to decency, probity, transparency of process and fairness in outcome.
“This is done not by subterfuge, divide and rule and turning Nigeria in a field of discord or a street of broken institutions. It is accomplished by honouring the principles of democratic good governance and economic justice. It is done by persuading the people they are better off as one instead of better off tearing at one another’s throats.

We have sex just once a week... 76% of men said they watch pornography, half of women read erotic fiction and it’s all the economy’s fault

The recession has not only left many Britons worse off financially, it has also damaged their sex lives, according to a survey.
It says the average Briton has sex four times a month, compared with seven in 2008 when the years of economic boom gave way to bust.
And one in three Britons now does not have sex at all in a typical month.
The survey suggests that women are increasingly getting their thrills from erotic literature while men are turning to online porn
The survey suggests that women are increasingly getting their thrills from erotic literature while men are turning to online porn
This is a significant increase – by eight percentage points – since 2008, says the poll of more than 1,000 adults published yesterday.
The decrease in regularity of having sex may be one of the reasons why the proportion of Britons saying they are satisfied with their sex life – 63 per cent – has decreased considerably since 2008, when 76 per cent were content.

‘Lagos govt has technically taken over Synagogue’

General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, Mrs. Abimbola Animashaun-Odunayo, in this interview, speaks on the recent collapsed building belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, the intricacies surrounding it, the next line of action by the state government, among others. Excerpts:

What actually went wrong with the SCOAN collapsed building?
We need support from stakeholders and everyone. Before now, we have been trying to curtail incidence of collapse building until we had the latest one. I think the problem of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, brought the issue to the fore again. A lot of institutions are too secretive they will not allow government officials do their job properly. They believed that if you are not a member, you cannot have access to their premises.

Abati said the issue had been properly dealt with during the just-concluded 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly which President Goodluck Jonathan attended in New York.
He said the security challenges in the country were one of the issues discussed when the foreign ministers of the two countries met on the margins of the assembly.

Synagogue miracles are not fake — TB Joshua

TB Joshua
The founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Temitope Joshua, has refuted allegations that he performs fake miracles.
The pastor has come under severe criticisms owing to the church’s collapsed building which killed at least 115 people.
A South African journalist, Jacques Pauw had alleged that Joshua’s miracles were not genuine.
In his report he had said, “I challenged the pilgrims to provide me with medical proof that they had been healed. None did.”
In a statement released through the church’s official Facebook page, Joshua claimed that all his miracles were performed before the church audience and were broadcast live through the SCOAN’s Emmanuel TV.
“Please note, all of The SCOAN services are public and broadcast live on Emmanuel TV,” the statement read in part.
The popular televangelist was reacting to a media report concerning the authenticity of miracles performed by the pastor.
But, Joshua claimed that the media report was false. According to him, the names of the people who alleged that the pastor performed fake miracles are fabricated.

Militant in Beheading Videos Has Been Identified, F.B.I. Chief Says

WASHINGTON — American intelligence agencies believe they have identified the Islamic State militant who appeared on two videotapes in which American journalists were beheaded, the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said Thursday, but he declined to name the man while agents from the United States and Britain were searching for him.
Intelligence agencies have used voice-recognition technology, overhead imagery and records of Western fighters who are believed to have joined the group in the effort to identify the killer, who first appeared in a video a month ago showing the beheading of James Foley. A second gruesome video, showing the death of Steven J. Sotloff, was released about two weeks later. Both men were freelance journalists.
For a while, British officials focused their suspicions on a rapper who they believed had gone to Syria to fight. Now “the assumption is that was wrong,” one official said.

Insecurity: Monitoring movement of money in banks will help –Oney

Insecurity: Monitoring movement of money in banks will help –Oney
Mr. Ethelbert Onuoha Oney is a United Kingdom trained lawyer, who bagged a Masters in Security and intelligence from Oxford University. He also has a degree in Security Management. In this encounter with JULIANA FRANCIS, Oney reveals what Nigeria and Nigerians can do to finally nail the rampaging Boko Haram sect. Excerpt:
What’s the difference between terrorism and insurgency?
The difference is broad. Insurgency means militant and militantancy means freedom fighters. Terrorism doesn’t have any definition among the scholars or practitioners. But for me, terrorism means a group of aggrieved people, with the intention of hurting a nation, inculcating fear into people, with mass killings and economic sabotage. The two are not the same. Insurgency can be a freedom fighter. It means you have a purpose, reason for fighting. In terrorism, they don’t know what they’re fighting for and something new will keep coming up. Terrorism is a system. In order to win terrorism, you must first of all, win the intelligence war.
How do we win the intelligence war?
We win intelligence war by first having timely and appropriate policy. The policy is not to show the citizenry that government is working. The policy should be such that once its implemented, anyone who goes contrary to it; either sponsors of terrorism or supporters, should be tried and jailed. And the best of it should be a long term jail. It shouldn’t be killing and shooting. Secondly, there should be specialised agencies; people who are trained in counter terrorism, and security experts. Maybe, people who had worked with the police or army. Thirdly, we have the experts. These are people like me. There are a lot of people who are terrorism experts in Nigeria. I mean people who read and studied it up to master’s level.
Those are the people needed in terrorism situations. Fourthly, there’s the resource. This is having the resources to back whatever mechanism they want to apply. As far as you and I know, we have the resources. None of these four factors have been applied from the beginning. From the beginning of Boko Haram, all we’ve heard is army this, army that. Army is not supposed to get involved in counter terrorism. The only time they’re supposed to get involved is when there’s intelligence report that the terrorist would be in a particular area

Alton Alexander Nolen, 30, was trying to convince workers that Islam teaches that the punishment is acceptable on Thursday, shortly before he was fired from his job at Vaughan Foods in Moore, Oklahoma, according to local media.
He returned the same day and lashed out at colleagues Colleen Hufford and Traci Johnson with a knife, police said.
After being shot by sheriff's deputy Mark Vaughan, who is also the firm's CEO, in the wake of the horrific attack he has woken up in hospital and is being questioned by police.
And as the FBI investigates his alleged conversion to Islam in connection with the killing, reports have emerged that Nolen was shouting Islamic phrases during the rampage.

Bonfire of the ebola victims: The bones and ashes of 700 plague victims lie in a mound next to incinerators imported from Britain - just one of the macabre scenes that reveal the true toll of the world's deadliest virus...

As I walked into the walled Hindu-style cremation site outside Monrovia alongside the latest consignment of bodies, I saw a smouldering pile of ashes with smoke rising from it.
Scattered among the flickering flames were clearly visible human bones: femurs, hip joints and even the odd skull.
These were the remains of 15 ebola victims, their highly-contagious corpses set ablaze the night before on open pyres.

Did I marry Britain's cruellest husband? Abused. Spied on. Forced to take a lie detector test. Then the bombshell: in a divorce court, she's told he is a bigamist

Imagine. You’re embroiled in a bitter divorce case, trying to sort out a financial settlement for yourself and your two-year-old daughter, having fled the family home after years of violence and abuse. A Family Court judge has already granted a decree nisi: surely the end of this wearying legal contest must be near?
And then your ex drops his bombshell. According to a court document submitted by his solicitor, two weeks before he married you in England, he wed a woman you’ve never heard of in Bangladesh. You were never his wife at all.
Now he wants you to agree that, instead of a divorce, you should instead be granted an annulment. At first, he also wants you to withdraw any claim on his assets.
If that sounds bad enough, for businesswoman Laura Lyons, there was all this – and more.

A shamed senior policewoman described as ‘a disgrace to her uniform’ by a judge has been freed from prison just four months into a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence for fraud.
Former Chief Inspector Tanya Brookes, 46, who was convicted of dishonestly making £11,000, is now back home with her husband and children.
Her early release was described as ‘outrageous’ last night after The Mail on Sunday discovered Brookes, who served with Surrey Police, had been allowed out with a tag on ‘home detention curfew’ following a successful appeal to reduce her sentence to 18 months. Even taking that into account, she has served less than a quarter of her time in jail – and will even keep her generous pension.
The mother of four, who was convicted of 33 charges, cheated shops by forging vouchers or claiming refunds for goods such as micro-scooters and blankets that she had bought at a discount online.
