Renowned
actress Joke Silva and ace musician, MI, will soon become part of the campaign
group to fight criminals who deceive and exploit their fellow Nigerians into
menial and sexual servitude, especially children.
This news
was revealed yesterday by Sa’adetu Yahaya of the United Nations Office on Drugs
and Crime (UNODC), during a one day workshop, tagged, Promoting better
management of migration in Nigeria by combating and reducing irregular
migration that occurs, inter alia, through trafficking in persons (TIP) and
smuggling of Migrants (SOM).
The workshop
was held at the Airport Hotel and was a collaboration effort between the
National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) and UNODC.
Joke Silver
will be the ambassador for the campaign tagged, ‘I am Priceless’ and will be
expected to address older generation of Nigerians, especially those in the
entertainment industry on the ills and dangers of human trafficking, said
Yahaya.
She further
added that MI, who incidentally came up with the campaign name, ‘I am
Priceless’ will be expected to address youngsters.
The slogan,
‘I am Priceless’ is an inspirational statement, intended to communicate an
inestimable sense of value, self worth
and dignity of each and every human life.
The project
is expected to resonate with the young, vulnerable and often disenfranchised
population while, also instilling a sense of empowerment that should counter
other negative messages that have been communicated to them since childhood or
following a trafficked experience.
The slogan
is a call to value oneself and to build one’s self esteem positively while
defying the use of human beings as property to be trained and exploited.
