Superintendent of Police arrested for shooting civilian

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has ordered the immediate arrest of a Superintendent of Police (SP), Opawoye Adetunji, who allegedly shot and injured a civilian at the Alapere area of the metropolis.
Adetunji is attached to Sagamu Road Police Station as the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO).
The circumstances surrounding the shooting incident were still unknown, but it was learnt that moments after Adetunji shot the civilian, people nearby pounced on him. He was beaten until he lost consciousness.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chike Oti, said that commissioner had directed that the officer be issued a comprehensive query for shooting a civilian on Sunday over a yet to be determined reason.
He said: “The officer, who is currently recuperating in an undisclosed hospital alongside his victim, has not been able to give his statement because he is still unconscious as a result of the beating he received and injuries sustained when the mob attacked him at the scene of incident.”
The commissioner further directed that as soon the SP regains consciousness, he should be served with the query.
“The command has never and would never tolerate the use of firearm outside the provisions of Force Order 237,” Oti added.
