The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has charged law enforcement agencies in the country to see themselves as partners in progress rather than competitors, noting that this was necessary in achieving the desired goal of bequeathing a better Nigeria to future generations.
Giving the charge on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 was the Head, South East Zone of the Commission, Oshodi Johnson (DCDS), while receiving the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Enugu State Command, Ogbonnaya Kalu, who led his team on a courtesy visit to the Enugu Zonal Office of the Commission.
“Because of our collective mandate of fighting crime in different spheres, no organisation can stand alone. Rather with our collective efforts, we can make Nigeria great again, but first we must see ourselves as one and not competitors,” Johnson said.
He expressed appreciation to the FRSC for always verifying licenses for the Commission during investigations and making its men available in court for testimonies in EFCC cases, as well as in managing traffic during the Commission’s anti-corruption walks and other events.
Johnson recalled the cooperation he got as deputy team leader in Lagos State, from the FRSC and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in putting an end to Western Union Money Transfer fraud in the state.
In his remarks, Kalu assured the Commission’s Enugu Zonal Office of FRSC’s continued support in its efforts to eradicate financial crimes and corruption in the zone.
“My visit is to know you and cement the good relationship we have had as sister organisations, working together to make Nigeria a crime free nation,” Kalu said.
He expressed delight in the achievements of the Commission in the country and especially the South East. “I have read stories about the exploits of the Commission in the zone. I am here to encourage you to keep up the good work and thank you for the successful prosecution of a case of drivers’ licence forgery and racketeering you handled for us,” he said.
He charged the EFCC not to hesitate in taking action against any officer of the corps found to engage in an act of corruption.
