The Onitsha community was on Wednesday night thrown into panic when kidnappers abducted the Omodu Daike of Onitsha, Chief Albert Ibekwe.
Ibekwe was kidnapped at 3-3 junction, near Onitsha on his way back from Awka where he had gone to visit a friend.
The abduction came barely two days after kidnap of a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Emeka Aniebonam, from his private clinic in Onitsha.
Ibekwe, who is the Chairman of the Association of Anambra State Park Agents, was kidnapped by gunmen who operated in two vehicles.
A family member who requested anonymity said the kidnappers had already called the family to ask for a ransom of N30 million.
The Police Area Commander in Onitsha, Mr. Benjamin Wordu, who confirmed the kidnap, expressed the readiness of the police to track down the kidnappers and rescue him unhurt.
Meanwhile, the Campaign for Democracy, South East zone has called for immediate removal of one of the divisional police officers in Onitsha.
