Police in
Ogun State have arrested a teenager, Idowu Abosede, for allegedly stabbing her
boyfriend, Aliyu Ibrahim, to death.
The suspect,
18, was arrested in Sagamu following an argument between her and the deceased
over the sum of N3000.
A statement
yesterday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola
Oyeyemi, said that the teenager used knife to stab her lover in the
chest.
Oyeyemi further
explained: "The suspect was arrested following a distress call from Seriki
Hausa in Sagamu that the suspect and her deceased boyfriend, were arguing over
the sum of N3000 as a result of which they were struggling for possession of a
knife. The girl eventually got possession used the knife to stab the boyfriend
on his chest which resulted to his death. On receiving the distress call, the Divisional
Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Shagamu Police Station, a Superintendent of Police
(SP) Okiki Agunbiade, detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspected
teenager was arrested. The blood stained knife which he used to stab the
deceased was also recovered.”
Oyeyemi
stated that on interrogation, the suspect claimed that she came to pass the
night with the deceased and when she was about leaving in the morning, she took
the sum of N3000 from the deceased, but he refused to allow her to leave with
the while N3000. They started quarreling.
Oyeyemi said:
"She further stated that it was the deceased who brought out the knife and
while dragging it with him, the knife stabbed him on his chest."
The police
spokesman, however, stated that the corpse of the deceased had been released to
his relations on their demand for burial in accordance with Islamic
rites.
He added
that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the
immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal
Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and
prosecution.
