Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is set
to punish some of its personnel for violating the ethics of their jobs.
In a statement on Thursday by its spokesperson,
Mrs. Bola Ajao, the agency said the punitive measure was in response to
complaints from members of the public.
It said, “The development was to stem the tide of
misconduct, discipline and make all the staff alive to their official
responsibility.”
General Manager, LASTMA, Mr. Babatunde Edu, while
inaugurating the administrative panel at Oshodi advised members of the
committee to handle all the disciplinary matters professionally.
He said the government would not tolerate any act
of indiscipline or misconduct capable of tarnishing its image.
He said the government had invested much
money in the training and welfare of the officials and would not tolerate any
member of the organisation engaging in unwholesome acts.
He urged the administrative panel to look into the
various cases of indiscipline against 25 members of staff and mete out
sanctions.
The 25 officials were being investigated for
cases, such as fighting, corrupt practices, illegal duty, dereliction of duty,
infringing on the rights of others as well as absence from duty without
permission.
Meanwhile, the state government has begun
leadership and career evaluation training for all the LASTMA’s and Kick Against
Indiscipline officials.
The training is to instill discipline among the
members of staff and to improve LASTMA working relationship with members of the
public.
