ATM robbery: We've returned stolen N6.9m to bank - Ogun CP



Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, yesterday said his command had handed over the N6.9 million stolen by armed robbers from a new generation bank in Sagamu area to the authorities of the bank.

Okoye spoke at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta where 24 suspects were paraded for various criminal offences.

A gang of robbers had on Sunday broke into the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the bank and attempted to steal huge sums of money loaded in the machine.

But policemen on patrol foiled the robbery operation, which forced the bandits to flee through the jungle and abandon their N6.9 million loot.

Speaking with reporters, the police commissioner said the recovered money had been handed over to the manager of the bank.

He stated that the five suspects arrested in connection with the robbery operation were still in police custody, adding that investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Okoye, who enthused that his command recorded achievements in the last one month, said the 24 suspects paraded were among criminals allegedly terrorizing the state.

The suspects were arrested for offences ranging from armed robbery, murder, illegal possession of arms and ammunition, house breaking, cultism and obtaining money under false pretence.

The commissioner disclosed that different items, including guns, live cartridges, mobile phones, one vehicle and various cash sums were recovered from the suspects.

He also revealed how policemen apprehended a wanted cultist (name withheld) allegedly from the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye on Wednesday, last week.
Okoye, who stated that one cut-to-size single barrel gun was recovered from the suspected cultist, said he was wanted in another case of murder under investigation.
The police boss also restated the commitment of his command towards providing adequate security for the people of the state.
