DETAILS gathered from Auchi, Edo State, have revealed that not less than 10 people lost their lives to the Monday night robbery attack that occurred in the town.
This is just as the Chief Medical Director, Auchi Central Hospital, Dr Jude Omoregie, confirmed to journalists that bodies of three soldiers were brought to the hospital.
The attack, which was said to have lasted for about three hours, sent jitters down the spines of residents of the town, as many of them were still afraid of coming out of their homes when the Nigerian Tribune visited on Tuesday morning.
According to residents of the town, not less than 10 dead bodies were recovered, mainly on the Igarra-Jattu Road.
They said scoress of people were also wounded, as many were receiving treatment at the Auchi Central Hospital and other hospitals in the town.
Dr Omoregie told reporters that the hospital was able to save one Khadijat Musa, a 16-year-old girl from Kogi State, who was rushed to the hospital, though the commercial motorcyclist who carried her was killed.
Meanwhile, Edo state deputy governor, Pius Odubu, accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Philip Shaibu, acting state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Hurdi; representative of the Brigade Commander, 4 Mechanised Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Director of the State Security Services (SSS) in Edo State, Tukur Bakori, on Tuesday afternoon, visited Auchi and the affected areas in the town.
Speaking at the palace of the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Haliru Momoh, Hurdi told journalists that lives were lost in the attacks but the police were yet to ascertain the number.
Also speaking, Odubu called on the Inspector General of Police to reinforce the police personnel and equipment in the Auchi area.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered investigations into robbery and bombing attacks on three banks in Auchi on Monday.
He wondered how robbers with such explosives carried out such operation without police patrols confronting them.
The decision to investigate the matter, according to sources, stemmed from the fact that only a fortnight ago, he summoned all police commissioners to Abuja and warned them to be at alert.
Force spokesman, Frank Mba said following the directive, a manhunt had been launched for the criminals who perpetrated the act, noting that the criminals would be fished out soon.
