Robbery attempt: Police kill 2, arrest 2 in Kogi

Luck ran out on  six dare-devil armed robbers who made attempts to rob a second generation bank located on Ghandi Street  in Lokoja, on Thursday, as they met a stiff resistance from the men of the Kogi State Police Command.
However, during a gun duel  between them and the police, two were  killed, two were  arrested while two of them escaped.  They came on   three power bikes, pairing themselves on each of the bike.
The police, however,  recovered one pistol  and  one of the  power bikes.
One of the arrested suspects,  Kenneth Unorum, told newsmen that they came from Imo State, adding that their leader, whom he called Chimezie,  could not endure the gunshot as he died before getting to the Police headquarters. The name of the second dead person was not made available .
The state police commissioner, Mr Mohammed Katsina,  disclosed that he was able to attain this feat  through the efforts of the “Ambush Squad”  whom he said, informed the office immediately  the robbers arrived  the bank and the prompt efforts of his men.
He  disclosed that the difference between  the  Ambush Squad  and the State Anti Robbery Squad {SARS}  was that  the  latter is physical while the former is not.
Katsina,   who was very elated,  explained that the robbers were overpowered “ after a prolonged  and terrible armed engagement,” adding that “our strategy is working, this is a warning to everybody that crime and criminality will not work in this state.”
According to him, “ l have what it takes to combat crime. This rampaging hoodlums came in three powerbikes, two  on  each one all the way from Imo State. They had already taken position  near the bank when my Ambush Squad saw them and promptly responded before it informed the headquarters. We, therefore, mobilised, overpowered them and at the end  gunned down two of them.”
Two of them were at large according to him but “ l gave instructions to my men that they should not come back here to the station until the two were arrested. Kogi State would never be a breeding ground for robbers, they should leave this state alone because if you strike me l strike you, if you fire me l fire you as from now it would be operation fire for fire”
He however stressed that no life was lost and that no penny was taken away appealing to the public that whenever they “ see armoured tank with red flag flying  with blaring siren  they should  know that there is danger and give way  as we are ready to help them they should equally assist us also”
