Nurse, 25, butchered in Ekiti, husband in detention as prime suspect

THERE was confusion in Ayedun quarters in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, as a 25-year-old nurse, Mrs Moyinoluwa Osire, was found butchered by unknown persons.

It was gathered that Mrs Osire was said to have been butchered by her assailants on Sunday at their residence, located in the area.

Sources in the community claimed that she was killed with a machete said to be in their home, with Mrs Osire said to have been found in the pool of her blood in one of the rooms in the house belonging to her step-father, Mr Olawale Ogundare.

Ogundare told newsmen on Tuesday the he and other members of his family left for church at about 9.15 a.m on Sunday, but Mrs Osire could not join them because she complained of tiredness after her midwifery examination at the School of Nursing, Ado-Ekiti.

“When we returned home, we knocked the door and when I could not hear from her, I peeped through the window and I saw that the way she slept was not normal and we quickly came to the main door and found out that it was already opened.

“When we entered, we found her in the pool of her blood. We tried to reach out to the husband, but he switched off not until Tuesday, when he called us with one strange number,” he said.

Ogundare said her handset and N250,000 the deceased was said to have withdrawn from the bank on Friday, including oher valuables, were taken away, adding that her husband had been arrested and detained over the incident.

He alleged that the deceased and her husband were not in good terms, alleging further that he had threatened her several times through the telephone.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Victor Babayemi, confirmed the murder, adding that no arrest had been made so far.

The police spokesman said post-mortem had been conducted on the deceased and the results were being awaited.
