Fulani herdsmen kill 9 persons in Niger

NO fewer than nine persons were killed in their sleep in Kushaka village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State  by invading Fulani herdsmen from neigbouring Kaduna State.
The  state  police command spokesman, ASP Richard Oguche, said the report  reaching the command showed  that the villagers were killed in their houses at about 1.00a.m., when the Fulani herdsmen attacked them without any provocation.
He said the village is on the border between Niger and Kaduna states, while no reason could be adduced for the attack, as the village had no previous quarrel or misunderstanding with their neigbours.
He, however, informed  the Nigerian Tribune that  the command had deployed three trucks loaded with anti- riot policemen to the scenes of the carnage to investigate the immediate and remote  causes of the incident with a view to arresting  those responsible for the needless blood letting, in accordance with the laws of the land. Also speaking with the Nigerian Tribune  on the incident, the Shiroro Local Government council chairman, Alhaji Audu Yerima, confirmed the incident while describing the attack as unwarranted and heinous.
He said the incident was shocking as the  villagers were peace loving people and had no record of conflict with any group of persons or communities within their neigbourhood.
He said those who survived the attack, ran into the bush.
