Ogun
State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has sought divine
intervention in the high rate of road crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr.
Christopher Ademoluti, stated this when he visited the General Overseer
of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Ademoluti, who met Adeboye in company
with the FRSC unit commanders in Mowe, Ijebu-Ode, Ogere and Sagamu, also
sought the church’s assistance in the provision of patrol vehicles and
an ambulance.
The command’s Public Education Officer, Taiwo Nodiru, stated this in a statement on Thursday.
The statement read, “The Sector
Commander, FRSC, Ogun State, Mr. Christopher Ademoluti, has taken the
battle against Road Traffic Crashes in Ogun State, especially on
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, to the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch
Adeboye, for his spiritual intervention.” Ademoluti paid a visit to
Pastor Adeboye on Monday, June 3, 2013 with the FRSC Unit Commanders
along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.”
The statement added that Adeboye prayed for the safety of all road users and the progress of the FRSC.
He also urged motorists to exercise caution while plying the road.
Meanwhile, the National Union of Road
Transport Workers in the state has warned truck drivers to stop seeing
officials of the FRSC as their enemies.
The NURTW said the FRSC officials were
only carrying out their responsibility of saving lives and reducing
crashes on the highways.
The state NURTW Secretary, Mr. Sunday
Yeye, said this at a rally organised by the FRSC for truck
owners/drivers, members of the First Nigeria Tipper and Lorry Drivers
Association and Tipper Drivers Division in the state.
Yeye said the FRSC needed free hand to carry out its constitutional duty without any let or hindrance.
He said, “We should not see road safety
officials as our enemies. If you see somebody talking to you about your
safety, you should commend him. The road safety officer is your friend.
They are concerned about our lives always. So, let us cooperate with
them at all times regarding the observance of traffic rules and
regulations.”
Ademoluti said the seminar was one of the persuasive methods adopted by the corps to educate drivers on road safety.
