A suspect
who was arrested by detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),
Panti Yaba, Lagos State, has stated that he went to Port-Novo to get a
digitalized master key with which to operate and steal all Camry cars.
The suspect,
identified as Prince Onyeka, revealed that the only limitation of the key, when
it comes to stealing Camry cars, was that the key could only operate 1998 and
2000 models of Camry cars. According to him, the areas he used to steal cars
are; Festac, Ikeja and Surulere.
Police
spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, explained that Onyeka paid N170, 000 for the key
and steals an average of two cars every day.
The suspect,
who is from a royal family in Imo State, confessed to have stolen seven Camry
cars since he got the key but detectives believe he was lying.
They
believed the cars were more than seven, especially since detectives discovered
that he used to steal an average of two cars every day.
Onyeka
further revealed that with his digitalized master key, he could operate and
make away with any Camry car, no matter the security devices attached to the
car.
He however
added: “The master key has a sensor, which usually alert me to know a car that
has a security device. But I can operate and steal any Camry car, except those
that have factory fitted security device. Such factory fitted cars are usually
from overseas.”
Onyeka, who
was deported from Thailand, said that he operates alone and was introduced into
the crime by a friend who is now residing in London.
His words: “I
took to the crime because I was planning to raise money and go back to Asia
country.”
He was
arrested when he came to deliver a stolen car to a client, unaware that the
client was an undercover detective.
