Suspected assassins kill man, rape daughter in Delta

Dominic Adewole, ASABA
A middle aged man, Daniel Benwari, has been assassinated in his home at Abuelo Quarters of Issele-Azagba, in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.

The victim was shot dead, while his daughter was raped by the assailants.
This came barely three weeks after a Director at the Ministry of Works in the state was assassinated at his project site in Illah, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
Daniel's killers abducted his wife, Mrs Helen Benwari, and assaulted his daughter, Ebie, at about 7p.m on the fateful day, before killing him
The victim's neighbour, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the assailants wore masks. He explained that the gunmen had earlier held Daniel’s wife and then forced her to take them to her husband.
The mother of the victim, Mrs Ajeke Attah, who was residing with them, said his killers also took the phones and shoes of her son away.
Ajeke said: "They knocked on the door, we begged them but they refused. We had locked the protector. My son went in to get the keys to the doors. As soon as he opened the door, the people followed his wife into the house and shot my son as he tried to close the door. They took his phones, shoes and assaulted his daughter.”
Pastor Ezekiel Ogunleye of the Celestial Church of Christ at Abuelo Quarters was also attacked in the same community. Another victim, Mr Joshua Johnson, narrowly escaped being killed.
