A nine-year-old boy has been rushed to the Island Maternity General Hospital for urgent medical attention after he jumped off a three storey building at the Isale-Eko, Lagos Island, area of the state, to stop his aunt from beating him.
It was gathered that members of the Advocates for
Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), were already on the case.
According to the person that drew the attention of ACVPN
to the matter, the aunt of the boy pounced on him for over four hours and
wouldn’t relent from continuously beating him, even as neighbours pleaded with
her to let him be.
The child, crying and screaming, threated to jump
off the balcony if his aunt didn’t let go, but the lady allegedly continued
spanking him. And before one could Jack Robison, the child jumped.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the child presently needs
urgent chest surgery. The child was said to have landed on his chest. The
incident happened on Tuesday. When the incident happened, the aunt disappeared,
leaving neighbours to rush the child to hospital.
Police Adeniji Adele
Police Station, Family Support Unit (FSU), have launched an
investigation into the incident. Two policemen had gone to arrest the boy’s mom
and had started quizzing him.
Mr. Ebenezer Omejalile, Co-founder, ACVPN, said: “I
have spoken with the survivor at Adeniji Adele Police Station. He said it was
her mother's elder sister that was beating him before he jumped from the third floor
of the building. I was at a programme when I was informed about the case by the
Head of FSU Adeniji Adele Police Station. I quickly went to the station to the
boy.”
