Registration of SIM cards: NCC seizes 6 data capturing machines
Six data capturing machines, which were used for illegal registration of SIM cards, were, on Wednesday, seized in Lokoja, Kogi State, by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
However, those arrested would be be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others involved in the acts.
Those involved in the fraudulent SIM registration ignored the policy of NCC and refused to abide by the laid down rules and regulations, as they often registered in proxy and sold out to unsuspecting members of the public.
The NCC policy on the registration was to ensure that a correct data base, which Nigeria can rely on, was established.
Mr Efosa Idehen, head of the enforcement unit of NCC, told newsmen in Lokoja while conducting raids on some sale outlets, that Kogi State had already been saturated with pre-registered SIM cards sold by some of those who handled the SIM cards registration.
He said that the agency was out to sanitise the market against such fraudulent acts, warning those who had bought the pre-registered SIM cards to go back to their service providers and do proper data capturing.
He also warned Nigerians not to be involved in buying SIM cards registered in proxy and pushed out to the market, as the agency was out to enforce and rid the country of the ugly trend.
Efosa, however, advised service providers to monitor those handling their contracts of data capturing to ensure compliance.
He also advised those who innocently bought pre-registered SIM cards, whose line had been blocked, to approach their service providers for proper registration, as the agency would continue to delist such SIM cards.
