Security Threat: Army Chief Meets IG Today
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika will today meet with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar over the current security situation in the country.
Although the meeting was dubbed a courtesy visit, LEADERSHIP reliably learnt that the meeting will see both security chiefs comparing notes and harmonising intelligence.
It was further gathered that the Boko Haram insurgency would top the agenda; an issue, sources said, had given both security chiefs sleepless nights.
According to a top security official who confided in LEADERSHIP, the meeting will assess the progress so far made in the fight to contain the insurgents.
The Inspector-General of Police had at a recent meeting with top police chiefs revealed that a committee had been set up to look at the issue of terror and also ascertain the number of the suspects so far in the hands of the security agencies.
Another issue which the meeting might look into, the source said, was the fast approaching Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to him, the security chiefs do not want a repeat of last Christmas ugly incident when suspected Boko Haram insurgents bombed a church hundreds of worshippers.
