Death of Damoche: 70 suspected cultists arrested as new clash erupts

*No arrest yet, no other killings-Police

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that no arrest has been made yet on the killing of the upcoming star, Olaniyan Damilola otherwise known as Damoche who was killed on Thursday by unknown cult members at the entrance of the Lagos State University (LASU).

The spokesperson for the command, Ngozi Braide who stated this in an interview with Daily Newswatch yesterday, said that although investigation had began into the incident, detectives investigating the incident were yet to nail the culprits.

A day after Damoche was gunned down; rumours had engulfed LASU that another student, unknown young, also suspected to be one of members of the fraternities on LASU campus was also shot dead by members of another rival cult group.

But Braide said: “We also heard about this young man that was killed, but investigation has shown that nobody was killed as the artist. The story that anybody was killed on Friday was a lie!”

Meanwhile, a senior police officer who spoke under condition of anonymity said, Area E which is the area command controlling the jurisdiction where Damoche was killed, went on a hunting spree on Sunday afternoon to get the suspected killers of Damoche.
The source said: “We are presently on the move now and have started arresting some people in connection with the incident.”

Another police source said about 70 cult members have been arrested so far from the hunting spree embarked upon by the area command in charge of the investigation.

The suspected cultists who were arrested with charms and other dangerous weapons have been transferred to Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ikeja for further investigation and interrogation.

It was gathered that there was however another reprisal attack in the early hours of today (Sunday) around the institution as the rival cult groups clashed.

The attack which was gathered became bloody around PPL left people scampering for safety.

Meanwhile, policemen from the state command have been placed on standby to forestall further violence.
