Police investigate murder of 400 Level student, four others killed in Lagos

Otenaike
Homicide detectives in Lagos State Police Command have launched investigation into the murder of a 26-year-old 400 level student who was killed at the Mushin area of the state.

Daily Newswatch gathered that the deceased, Adeolu Otenaike was killed two days after he bought a Honda car at Benin Republic and brought it to Nigeria to celebrate with friends.
This was just as the chairman of Keke NAPEP operators, identified as Lekan Lawal, was killed at the Ojuelegba area of the state.
Otenaike, who was a student at North American University, Houdegbe, was in company of five of his colleagues when the tragic incident occurred.
It was gathered that on March 20, 2013, after celebrating with his friends near his parents’ residence on Ojelade Street, some youngsters, believed to be cultists members swooped and killed him.
An eye witness said: “Otenaike and his friends left his parents home and when they got to a club on Jibowu Street to have a few more drinks, they met with some more friends in the area where they remained till almost 12am.
“When it was about midnight, the deceased decided to escort his friends but when they got to Empire area, they were accosted by some gangsters. The gangsters were led by one Taiye and I heard that Otenaike had a misunderstanding with them a few years ago.
“The gangsters grabbed Otenaike and beat up his friends, dispossessing them of all their valuables. One man, who was later identified as a Keke NAPEP operator, told the hoodlums to take Otenaike beneath the bridge not too far from Empire where he was later shot in the head and killed. Chinedu, another victim, was seriously wounded but managed to escape.”
It was further learnt that soon after Otenaike’s murder, policemen from Alakara police station, rushed down to the scene and recovered the corpse.
A resident, Muyiwa Asehinde, explained that although Mushin had been peaceful in recent months, there had been killings due to increase in cultism.
“Empire area, which used to be known as Fela’s Kalakuta Republic, has returned to its former state as many brothels and pubs in the area attracts many hoodlums and they frequently sell hard drugs which encourages crime,” he said. “The place has gradually become home to members of Eiye Confraternity. There is a club there which to the undiscerning eyes seems normal but it is also the national headquarters of a cult. I urge the police to carry out constant raids in the area as well as beneath the Jibowu Bridge.”
It was also gathered that about four other people were killed in Mushin and Ojuelegba area in the same week.
The chairman, Keke NAPEP operators, Ojuelegba unit was killed at about 9.30 pm by unknown gunmen and his corpse taken to the Area ‘C’ Command.
A Keke NAPEP operator, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, “He was killed on Ibidun Street by some gangsters but his corpse was later taken to Area C and was later released to the family for burial. He was buried as Sango area of Ogun State on Monday.”
In Mushin, it was learnt that three people were killed in Martins, Adeyemi and Olosha areas on Saturday.
At about 1pm that fateful Saturday, some cultists shot sporadically along the railway line. A youth who lives in a container was shot.
A resident said: “A young Igbo man popularly known as Double was shot inside the container he was sleeping at the railway line facing Daniel Street, Mushin. When the shooting was ongoing, Double turned on the lights and when the hoodlums spotted him, they riddled his container with bullets but he did not die.”
