Two arraigned for unlawful possession of pistol

Two men have been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrates Court for being in possession of one cut to size double barrel gun with one live cartridge.


The accused, Rasheed Olowu, (26) and Kabiru Ibraheem, (24), were arraigned on two count charges of being in possession of gun without license and belonging to an unlawful group.

The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Peter Nwaongwu, told the court that the pistol with the accused was without a license. Nwaongwu said the offence is punishable under Section 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Nwaongwu said: “One of the accused committed the offence on December 4th last year at Ajelogo Car Wash area of Mile 12 in Ikeja. The other accused committed the offence on January 4th at Agility area of Mile 12, Lagos State.”

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against them.

The Chief Magistrate Mrs Y. O Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two sureties in like sum. They are also expected to show evidence of tax payment for five years to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned to 18th April 2019, at 12 noon for further hearing.
