Operatives of the Inspector-General
of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu’s Specialise Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Tuesday, rescued the Magajin of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar, after spending 60-days
in kidnappers den.
Umar, an in-law of President
Muhammadu Buhari and a traditional ruler in Daura, was rescued by IRT
operatives after he was abducted on May 1st in his home town Daura Katsina State.
The operatives, during the rescue
operation, arrested 11 suspected terrorists and kidnappers.
The rescue operation was led by a
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari. According to a police source,
IRT operatives embarked on the operation after receiving directives from the
IG.
It was gathered that the operatives
unrelentingly pursued the case for six weeks and refused to give up even when
the trail ran cold. The combine rescue operation was carried out by IRT, Special
Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Kaduna state and SIB Niger State.
It was also gathered that the Kano
State Commissioner of Police, also assisted in the rescue operation and arrest
of the terrorists and kidnappers.
The police source further said: “The
rescue mission, through high level intelligence led operations, was conducted
in Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger, Katsina, Katsina and Kogi states. The operations led
to the arrest of 11 suspected terrorist and kidnappers, including the overall gang
leader. The victim was rescued in Panshakara Area of Kano City. One of the terrorist/kidnappers,
was, however killed.”
The police noted that it took the
efforts of the Officer in Charge (OC) of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)
Kano State, Police Mobile Force (PMF) and other police units, who assisted the
IRT to subdue and over power the kidnappers and enabled the rescue of the
victim. Several AK47 Rifles and ammunitions were recovered.
