Bus driver committed suicide in mechanic workshop

Homicide detectives from Lagos State Police Command have started trying to unravel the reason a 43-year-old commercial bus driver, Kabiru Bello, committed suicide at the Somolu area of the metropolis.


Eyewitnesses claimed that Bello drank a liquid substance suspected to be Sniper chemical in his Volkswagen commercial in his Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number AKD 724 XM while at a mechanic workshop at Ladylack Bus stop, Somolu.

The incident was said to have occurred on August 10, and reported at Pedro Police Station, Somolu, at about 12:56pm.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, while confirming the incident, said: “Bello allegedly drank a liquid substance suspected to be sniper chemical in his Volkswagen commercial Bus with registration number AKD 724 XM, while at a mechanic workshop at Ladylack Bus stop, Somolu. He was rushed to Adesola Clinic, also at Somolu, where he was confirmed dead. Homicide detectives have visited the scene and one empty bottle of chemical substances suspected to be sniper was recovered. The corpse has been deposited in mortuary for autopsy.”

Also on the same day, at about 9:30pm, Ilemba Hausa Police Station received a distress call that Wale Lawal was dispossessed of his laptop by some armed robbers.

A team of Policemen deployed to the scene gave the hoodlums a hot chase. The fleeing suspects abandoned their black Honda vehicle with registration number Lagos KJA 705 BU.

Elkana said: “On the spot search was carried out on the vehicle and two locally made single barrel guns with 12 life cartridges, one laptop and one mobile phone were recovered inside the vehicle. The vehicle was moved to the station for further investigation. Investigation is ongoing.”
