Taraba killings: Military, Police at logger head at panel

The Panel ordered to be set by President Muhammadu Buhari, to investigate the killing of three police officers by some soldiers in Wukari, Taraba State, which was supposed to meet yesterday, couldn’t.

According to source, the panel, which was headed by a rear-admiral was supposed to meet yesterday at Abuja, but the parley fell apart following a quarrel which allegedly erupted between the police management team and the military hierarchy.
Sources disclosed that both parties quarreled because both felt each were not handling the matter professionally.
The Defence Headquarters in Nigeria has set up a joint committee to investigate the killing of three police officers by some soldiers in Wukari, Taraba State, on Tuesday.
It will be recalled that acting Director of Information DHQ, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, had earlier mentioned that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, constituted the committee following directive of Buhari.
Nwachukwu also stated that the committee would be made up of seven officers. The committee, which would be headed by Rear Admiral I.T. Olaiya, has representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services and the Defence Intelligence Agency.
