Police rescue 11-year-old girl from abusive madam

The Anambra State Police Command has rescued an 11-year-old maid from her abusive boss.


The rescue of the girl started after the deputy area commander, in charge of Onitsha, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP),  Bawa, got a from a concerned Nigerian.

The Good Samaritan alerted him about the abuse being meted out on the girl and Bawa, together with a few selected policemen, went to the scene.

According to a human right activist, Dede Uzor, Bawa immediately mobilized and swung into action. The CSP was able to arrest the perpetrator, Odinaka Festus, and handed her over to B Police Station, Asaba for further investigations and prosecution.

Uzor said: “The little girl is Chidindu; she's 11 years now and has been living with a woman named Odinaka Festus.”
Bawa reportedly said: “We got a call from a good citizen, who alerted us about how the woman has been maltreating this little girl her up to the extent of breaking her head with a pestle and chaining her hands and her legs. Thank God for the good citizen that called us; the woman and the child are in police custody now.”

In another development, Anambra State Police Command, yesterday, said its operatives, attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), have arrested some suspected robbers at Ojoto, in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police (SP), Haruna Muhammed, while confirming the arrest, said that Emmauel Amaechi (35), Innocent Onyedikachi (29), Obinna James (20), Chukwuma Edeh (22) and Tochukwu Owor (27).

Muhammed said: “The suspects conspired and snatched a Toyota Camry 2009/2010 model at gunpoint in Onitsha from Nzube Udegbu on the August 4. The snatched vehicle was recovered in their possession and the case is under investigation, after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.”
