A woman, who went into labour on Friday during lockdown at about 3am, has been delivered of a baby girl after being rushed to hospital by some concerned operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command.

According to the RRS, Ikeja, the woman’s frantic husband was desperately looking for a vehicle at about 3am to take his wife, who had into labour to hospital, when RRS operatives noticed him.
He was asked why he was outside when he should be obeying the stay out home directive. After explaining his situation, the policemen abandoned their patrol, drove him home, picked his groaning wife and rushed her to hospital. She would later be delivered of a baby girl.
RRS, which took to its Facebook page to share the encounter with the now happy couple, said: “Around 3:am on Friday, our officers on normal patrol of their beat around Ikoyi stumbled on a man in distress.”
The narration continues: “He was accosted and questioned where he was heading that early during a lockdown. The man impatiently blurted out that his wife was in labour and that he had been looking for vehicle for some time to no avail. The officers hurriedly got him into their patrol vehicle after informing their monitor. They drove him to his residence and took him and his wife to an hospital in Obalende,  Lagos. Our officers took time out today to check the family and behold the wife had been delivered of a beautiful baby girl.”
Some Nigerians, reacting to the incident, praised the policemen.

Ganiyu Ayinla said that RRS has taken the policing to the professional level. He added: “Your kind gesture is highly appreciated.”
Ayinla further recalled: “ I could remember a day when I had flat tyre on Third Mainland Bridge in the night after Adekunle junction but couldn’t stop to change with the spare tyre. I decided to manage it to Oworoshoki with an intention of damaging the tyre and the rim. It was not far when I was flagged down by a team of RRS while I was driving with the punctured tyre. They asked me if I had a spare , I said yes. In short, I  was assisted to change the tyre and I decided to compensate them, but they refused to accept anything from me. May God continue to protect the entire team of RRS.”
Olusaibu Ayo stated: “It seems this particular group of Police here are given a special training, different from the others because over some months now, have been able to keep records of their good deeds. Great Job.”
