AN 18-year-old boy, Poshinye Abdullahi, has been sentenced to
22 years in prison by a Bauchi State High Court for raping a
three-year-old girl.
Prosecution counsel, Mr. G. D. Maleka, had told the court that the accused raped three-year-old Rahab Samuel of MOPOL Barracks, Bauchi, sometime in 2011, adding that the act contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Rabi Uma, stated that what the teenager did was barbaric, adding that he deserved whatever punishment meted out on him by the court, which she noted would serve as a deterrent to others who might have intention of raping innocent young girls and women in general.
She, however, directed that the convict’s jail term should start from December, 15, 2011.
