A young man in Ogun State, identified as Segun, has attempted to take his life after failing to meet the cut-off mark required in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Segun, who video recorded his attempt to take his life on social media, is presently in a hospital in the state, battling to stay alive.
The victim attempted to take his life after scoring 167. Segun mixed Sniper with tea, drank it and started vomiting blood.
He was vexed that another opportunity of getting admission into a tertiary institution had, once again, slipped by him. Before his move to commit suicide, Segun, on his twitter handle had repeatedly talked about death and suicide.
It was gathered that last year, Segun took JAMB and got a good result, but had to defer his admission because there was no sponsor. He went on his twitter handle to lament his situation, leading to two people volunteering to sponsor him if he was able to pass his JAMB this year.
This year, he wrote the JAMB, but scored 167. He saw the score as another chance that had slipped, especially now that he had sponsors. He decided to take his life.
However, Segun, who disclosed that his real name is Victor, tweeted about his low score, which is a total of 167 marks. Giving updates on his JAMB score since 2016, he tweeted: “2015 -189, 2016 -202, 2017 -233.”
He added: “It is now when people want to send me to school that I will now score 167 in UTME? 167. Make I close eyes pick answers sef…Me? 167? Meanwhile, I will be teaching y‘all how to make tea with sniper by 9pm live on Twitter… Tune in. This tea go sweet oo. Y’all should at least make it fun for me by 9 pm pls. Tune in and wish me luck.”
In a video, shared on his twitter handle, Segun was seen pouring Sniper into a cup, which he drank. He soon started vomiting blood.
It was gathered that Segun was later discovered before death came. After he shared the video, some of his followers tried to reach him.
According to a social media influencer, @Pamilerin, who has been monitoring Segun he had tweeted, he called him and he wasn’t picking, he tweeted, “Please who knows how I can get someone’s house address from his phone number. Segun is not picking or returning text message. Anyone who can help, please.”
Another person, Dr. PamPam | Omo Iya, said: “Please who knows how I can get someone’s house address from his phone number. Segun is not picking or returning text message.”
Records have it hat 292 people were talking about the Pamilerin, who later found an update on Segun’s health after he took the sniper.
Pamilerin tweeted: “Segun has been found, yet to respond to treatment but with God, he will survive this.”
One of the followers, Segun Aremu tweet: “Segun, I tried reaching you, but your phone is off. This is not the way to go bro. don’t let the devil deceive you into what’s not. Trust me, there is more to life than JAMB score. Please think of the pain your mom and loved ones will go through. I beg you, please have a rethink.”
After drinking the Sniper, friends, who saw his video, dashed to his home, rescued and rushed him to hospital.
The Ogun State Command, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola, Oyeyemi, said that his office was yet to receive such a report.
