The Lagos State Police Command has launched a man-hunt for one Mr. Kazeem for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl at the Boundary Ajegunle area of Lagos State and disappearing into thin air.
Kazeem, a commander of
the Odua People’s Congress (OPC) in his community, is said to have 36 children
from seven wives.
The illicit affair
with the under aged girl was discovered when she started bleeding profusely,
following unsafe abortion allegedly procured for her by the fleeing Kazeem and
one of his wives.
Members of the Advocates
for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), a nongovernmental
organisation based in Lagos State, have condemned the act. They also urged the
police to do everything possible to arrest Kazeem and arraigned him in court
for defilement and attempted murder.
The co-founder of ACVPN
Ebenezer Omejalile, said: “The unsafe abortion was carried out on the 13 years
old girl in Boundary area of Ajegunle. We received a distress call regarding Kazeem,
an OPC commander. According to the report, Kazeem has seven wives and 36
children.
After he impregnated
the 13 years old girl, he asked her to go for an unsafe Dilation and curettage
(D&C), which led to profuse bleeding. She was rushed to the hospital for
treatment. Nobody knows the whereabouts of Kazeem.”
Omejalile further
explained that the case was reported at the Ajeromi Police Station and the
police thereafter arrested one of the wives of Kazeem called Wuraola.
“Wuraola was arrested
because she was responsible for taking the girl to a pharmacist where the unsafe
abortion was carried out. The Operator of the pharmacy by name Olaseinde was also
arrested. The case was transferred to the Lagos State Police Command, Gender
Unit,” said Omejalile.
