Police smash group behind midnight attacks in Plateau


Plateau State police command has arrested five persons suspected to be masterminds of series of midnight attacks on villages in Riyom and Barakin-Ladi Local Government Areas of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ayeni, who disclosed this to newsmen in Jos, said based on information concerning attacks on Sopp, Kwaki, Forest area, Hawan Kibbo and Bangai villages in Riyom Local Government Area of the state, detectives from the state Criminal Investigative Department (CID) swung into action and arrested five kingpins.
 The suspects are Mohammed Abdullai, Ya’u Abdulai Yarima, Jafaru Damina, Musa Damina and Abubakar Damina.
 The police commissioner added that  in the course of preliminary  interrogations, it was discovered that the  suspects were behind series of attacks in the two local government areas.
He said they are currently in the custody of the state police command, adding that one of the victims of the attacks identified two of the suspects as those who killed some members of his family in an identification parade conducted by his command.
He further disclosed that the command had equally uncovered the activities of illegal blasters and their collaborators threatening the peace of the state with the use of explosives and allied materials.
He reminded members of the public that no blasting is to be carried out without the permission of authorities of the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and   the supervision of the police anti-bomb squad and warned that those patronising such unpatriotic blasters would hence forth be held liable for such illegality and deal with according to the law.
The commissioner also called on all indigenes of the state including religious leaders to be on red alert to avoid the ugly bomb incident that rocked Kaduna over the weekend.
