Woman sergeant kidnapped, abductors demand N5m from DPO

A female police sergeant, attached to Ketu Police Station, Ikosi Ejirin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, has been abducted.

The police woman, identified simply as Moji, was abducted at Idofi village, along Omu road.
She was among four passengers in a commercial bus, who were kidnapped on Wednesday around 10am.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has instructed the family members of Moji to nominate two persons, to come to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to discuss how to rescue the woman from captivity.
Two days after the abduction of the sergeant, her immediate boss, who is the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ketu Police Station, was contacted by the kidnappers. They demanded for N5million ransom.
Recalling how Moji was abducted, an eye witness said: “The kidnappers blocked the road leading to the village and jumped out of the bush where they had been hiding. They ordered all occupants out of the bus and marched them into a waiting speed boat.”
It was gathered that the kidnappers pulled Moji by her hair and dragged her on the ground after they discovered she is a police woman.
A source in the community said: “Since the incident happened, some police officers in the area are now afraid of going to their offices. Some of them, who used to wear uniform while going to office, have started wearing mufti to avoid being abducted.”
It would be recalled that several farm workers and farm owners have been abducted in that area in the last four months.
The recent kidnapping along that axis, is the abduction of two members of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and five farm workers of Eliasha livestock farm in Igbodu village.
The aggrieved farmers recently took to the street to protest the kidnapping of over 50 of their colleagues, who were only released after huge ransom payments.
When the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Olarinde Famous –Cole was contacted to confirm the abduction of Moji, he said : “Please, I’ll soon get back to you on that.”
