Man arrested for robbing, raping Facebook lover

Detectives attached to the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Mr Ayo Salau and are presently hunting for Mr Richard Samuel Gbenga, for allegedly robbing and raping a lady he met on Facebook.

The incident was said to have happened sometime in the month of July, when the lady became friends with the Gbenga on Facebook.
She, however, didn’t know that she was allegedly dealing with an armed robber and a rapist.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, said that the lady and the suspect  interacted a couple of times before they decided and agreed to meet each other.
Oti said that policemen from Maroko Police Station arrested the suspect after he allegedly committed the crime.
Oti explained: “On August 4, the suspect invited the young woman for a dinner and she accepted. She further told him where they would meet before taking off for the dinner. The suspect arrived at the agreed take off point in a Toyota Camry saloon car, with registration number JJJ 406 DL, driven by  Ayo Salau, a member of his robbery gang. On their way to Lekki, they suddenly pulled over at a lonely spot and brought out cutlasses.
"They ordered her to choose between taking off her clothes and getting killed. The petrified lady took off her clothes. They then took turn to rape her, after which she was robbed of her wristwatch and cash. The moment the hoodlums left, the victim raised the alarm. The policemen were alerted and the lady gave a vivid description of the car. The police sent radio messages to different stations. The police immediately laid ambush for the fleeing criminals. As soon as the police sighted the suspects, they recognized them through the car.”
When the policemen flagged down the car, the suspects sensed they had been found out. They were alleged to have abandoned their car and bolted. The policemen had immediately pursued and successfully arrested Ayo Salau, while his partner in crime, Gbenga escaped.
Oti said that the suspect had since been identified by the victim. The suspect had also allegedly admitted to the crime.
Oti said: “Ayo said that his fleeing partner recruited him for the job. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi, has cautioned youths, especially female, to be aware of people, who might be using social media to take advantage of them. We want to assure members of the public that the fleeing suspect would soon be caught.”
