The grieving widow of murdered Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) chapter chairman, Mrs Silifat Aborishade, has accused detectives attached
to the Lagos State Police Command of shoddy investigation, leading to the arrest
and detention of five innocent members of PDP.
In a petition addressed to the Deputy Commissioner
of Police (DCP), in charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and
Investigations Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, Silifat alleged
that those that went to the police station to report the murder of her husband,
Adeniyi Aborishade, for reasons yet unknown, were arrested and detained by
homicide detectives.
The woman, who demanded for release of the men
already on remand at Ikoyi Prison, said: “I wish to state with emphasis that
the five accused persons, Dr. Amos Alabi Fawole, Kehinde Fasasi, Rotimi Kujore,
Fatai Adele and Ismaila Abiola, are the complainants and not the accused
persons as erroneously suggested in the charge sheet.”
She added: “The five accused persons are not in any
way responsible for the death of my husband. They are the complainants that
have now, for reasons best known to the prosecution, turned into the
accused/victims in this unfortunate situation. Note that this petition was
written of my own freewill and not under duress or any form of pressures from
any quarters.”
According to Silifat, the detention of the five men and
subsequent conviction on charges of conspiracy and murder was a shock to her.
She explained that it was in view of the situation
that she had decided to, “withdraw/discontinuance of further, and or any action
against the second and sixth defendant in this matter as I see no reason or
reasons why they should be convicted, refused bail and detained at the Ikoyi
Prison, why they are currently being held in custody.”
The late Adeniyi was the Apapa Local Government PDP
chapter chairman, who was shot during the PDP meeting, held by the Lagos State
chapter at Igbosuku Community, Lekki Phase II, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
He would later die at First Consultant Medical Centre, Ikoyi Road, Lagos on the
July 21.
Further recalling events of the fateful day that her
husband died, Silifat said that her husband was shot during a PDP meeting and
was rushed to the hospital by the five accused persons. She added that on
reaching the hospital, Adeniyi was discovered to be in shock and had lost too
much blood, leading to his death.
When men realised that Adeniyi was dead, they went
to Ilasan Police Station, to lodge a complaint and subsequently wrote
statements. They were referred to the SCIID, where their statements were again,
taken, and thereafter, to their shock, detained.
Silifat said: “The five accused persons are on the
same camp with my husband till his demise as they were close friends and fellow
chairman of their respective local governments.”
