Daughter of APC chieftain abducted three weeks to wedding, rescued

The Bauchi State Police Command said that it has rescued two children of politicians, who were abducted in their homes at Rimin Zayam Town of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

One of the victims, a lady, is the daughter of Alhaji Shanahan, chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Toro Local Government Area. Also abducted and rescued is the 14-year-old son of another politician, Alhaji Bashir Bukar.
The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Kamal Datti Abubakar, while confirming the abduction, disclosed that the victims had been rescued.
The kidnappers, it was gathered, first attacked the house of Bukar by trying to break down the front door, but when they couldn’t succeed, they went through the backdoor. Immediately they gained entry, they ransacked the house, abducted Bukar’s son and carted away valuable items.
A family friend of Bukar, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “The kidnappers then went to the house of the APC chairman, gained entry into his home and abducted his daughter. The lady was abducted three weeks to her wedding. After several efforts and conversation with the kidnappers, both children were dropped near the town and later reunited with their families. We are happy to say that the girl was not violated in any way.”
It was further disclosed that after the abduction of the politicians’ children, the police were alerted. The hunt for the kidnappers was led by head of Police Anti-kidnapping team, Mustafa. At least five, among eight suspects that carried out the abduction, had been arrested.
Abubakar said: “The victims had been rescued and reunited with their families. Police anti-kidnapping team has arrested five suspects in connection with the incident.”
Speaking after the rescue of Shanahan’s daughter and his son, Bukar said that he was grateful to God for returning both children unharmed. He also used the opportunity to thank well-wishers, family and friends, who stood with them during their trial period.
