Two
ex-convicts, Oseni Usman (34) and Taiwo Orogbemi (46), who were arrested for
robbery, have told Operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS) how they
met and formed their robbery gang in Agodi Prison, Ibadan, Oyo State.
According
to the operatives, the suspects were arrested at Ogere Remo area of Ogun State,
while returning from Akobo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Zone 2
Police Public Relations Officer, (ZPPRO), a Chief Superintendent of Police
(CSP), Dolapo Badmos, said that the suspects robbed a resident at Akobo area of
Ibadan, Oyo State.
Badmos said
that the suspects, who were ex-convicts were on December, 31, 2018, at about 9:30a.m. The policemen, who
were on patrol duty along Ogere Remo in Ogun State intercepted a
Toyota Seinna Bus with two occupants.
Badmos
said: “After flagging down the vehicle, the two suspects made attempt to escape
but the policemen were able to nab them. On searching the vehicle, a locally
made cut to size gun, with three live cartridges were recovered. Immediately
the suspects were moved to the police base for further investigation.”
During
interrogation, the two suspects confessed to have robbed residents of Akobo
area of Ibadan in Oyo State where they stole goods worth millions of Naira.
Badmos
explained: “The items the suspects stole from their victims are phones, laptops
and other gadgets. But they had sold them to receivers in Oyo State, while they
were taking the sienna bus to Lagos to a buyer waiting for them. The suspects
said that they met in prison when they were serving jail term in Agodi Prison,
Ibadan claiming that there operational base is in Ibadan.”
Badmos,
however, said the operational strategy put in place by the Assistant-Inspector-General
of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone 2, Lawal Shehu, in the Yuletide actually
paid off.
She added:
“The AIG has directed the operatives to fish out other perpetrators involved in
the crime for prosecution.”
