Lagos CP declares war on drug abuse, destroys N400m drugs

Taiwo Jimoh
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi said that the command has declared war on drugs in the state.

Imohimi disclosed this yesterday at Elepe dumpsite, Ikorodu, where the police and other security agencies destroyed Heroin, Cocaine, Tramadol, Codeine and several syringes valued at  over N400m.
The CP, who said that he has observed the connection between drugs and crime, said police will partner other security agencies to rid the society of drug abuse.
He added: “You will recall that when I took over as Lagos CP, I stated that I will fight crime with every available resource. What we are witnessing here is part of my commitments to residents of Lagos. The substances we are destroying here were recovered during a raid on criminal hideouts at some parts of the metropolis. I assured the drug users and sellers that we’re coming after them. The substances contain Cocaine, Tramadol, Codeine, Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs worth over N400m. We know there is a nexus between drugs and crime. Perhaps the availability of drugs and arms are the reasons why we have crimes. This is why we have decided to fight the illegal use and sale of drugs in the state. We have clamped down on some areas used as transit points.”
