Detectives attached to Lagos State Police Command have arrested Sikiru Tanimowo, 37, for attempting to kidnap a four-year-old boy at Okokomaiko area of the state.

The suspect was arrested after someone saw him holding the boy in Otun Market Square, Okokomaiko, walking with the boy in a suspicious manner. The watcher, suspicious, was alleged to have alerted the police.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspected yesterday at the Command headquarters, Ikeja, said that Tanimowo was arrested following an intelligence report.

He said: “On January 6, at about 9:55p.m., information was received from a credible source that a man was seen around Otun Market Square, Okokomaiko area, a suburb of the state, holding a little boy in a suspicious manner. Based on the information, operatives of the Command attached to Okokomaiko Police Station moved swiftly to the location and arrested the suspect. The suspect later led detectives to the location where he picked the child. The police were able to locate his parents, who said they had been searching for him. They also said that they had never seen the suspect before that day.”

Imohimi, however, advised parents to be vigilante, where their children are concerned. Imohimi further stated that the boy had been reunited with his parents.
