Woman arrested for abducting children in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Mrs Blessing Chukwunonso for allegedly abducting two children in the state and planning to move them to Anambra State.

It was learnt that Chukwunonso, the following day, took the two children to Motor, where she planned to board an interstate bus to Onitsha, Anambra State.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said Chukwunonso was arrested on October 31, at about 6:30p.m., after police received credible information from a concerned Nigerian about the abduction.
Elkana disclosed that detectives from Ojo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Abdullah Malah, arrested Chukwunonso along Alaba International Market with two children, later identified as six-year-old Joshua James and three-year-old Samuel Gbawune, while trying to board a bus to Onitsha, Anambra State.
During interrogation, she confessed to the police that the boys were adopted by her husband,  Chukwunoso Happiness (40) from a motherless baby home in Jos, Plateau State and brought to Lagos.
Elkana said: “She was taking them to Onitsha to meet her husband, but the husband, who had also been arrested, confessed to have bought the children for N140,000 from one Mama Oyoo in Jos Township. Efforts are been made to identify the children’s parents, in order to reunite them. The command appeals to motor park operators, Unions and well -meaning Nigerians to keep an eye on passengers with children that appear in suspicious manner and alert the police.”
