December salary: Cameroonian houseboy, stabs mistress to death

Homicide detectives, attached to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, have arrested a Cameroonian houseboy, Joel Ludguo, for allegedly stabbing his mistress to death.

According to eye witnesses, the 22-year-old Ludguo, a cleaner, killed his mistress, Miss. Temiday Adeleke, at Prince Tayo Adesanya Street, Park View Estate, Ikoyi area of Lagos, where he lives with her.
Adeleke was already planning her wedding for next year, before she was murdered. The lady’s death has plunged her family and intended into mourning.
The suspect allegedly killed stabbed Adeleke on the chest for not immediately giving him part of his December salary, to enable him travel to his country.
Adeleke’s security guard, who wished simply to be addressed as Abbah, said Adeleke employed the suspect about two months ago. Abba disclosed that the deceased was quite generous to Ludguo.
Abbah further said: “It was the driver who lives in the adjoining flat that heard madam screaming. By the time he got there, she was gasping, with blood gushing out of her chest. The driver alerted me immediately to stop Ludguo at the gate. He was later arrested. Ludguo is wicked! I have always warned him. He takes drugs. When policemen searched his clothes, they found drugs. Madam just bought him a new phone last month. She used to give him money, aside from paying his salary regularly. She brought him home through her friend last month and they lived in the same flat.”
It was gathered that Ludguo planned to travel to Cameroon to celebrate the Christmas and New Year festivals with his family, but he knew he couldn’t embark on his journey without money.
As the Christmas day drew nearer, Ludguo became frantic and decided to ask Adeleke to pay him at least N15, 000 of his December Salary, which was N27, 000.
On Tuesday, at about 10am, Ludguo went to his mistress and asked her to pay him N15, 000 since his full salary wasn’t ready. He told her that he needed to travel.
A source said: “The woman didn’t say she wouldn’t give him the money. She only told him to exercise patience, that she didn’t have naira notes. She had just returned from overseas and had only foreign currencies. He left, only to return with a knife, with which he stabbed her on the chest.”
It was gathered that Ludguo, after realising his mistress was bleeding to death, attempted to bolt. Adeleke’s driver, however, heard her cries of pain and rushed to the apartment. The driver and security guard caught Ludguo just as he was about to escape.
They quickly alerted policemen at Ikoyi Police Station. It was from Ikoyi, that the suspect was moved to homicide section, SCID.
A police source said: “The cleaner said the woman had not paid him his December salary. It was just a month's salary and the month has not even ended. He used to collect N27, 000 per month. He used a knife to stab the woman in the chest. The woman shouted, which alerted the driver and security guard. He wanted to escape when policemen arrived at the scene and arrested him."
As of yesterday, mourners and family members said they were still in shock over the sudden death of Adeleke.
The deceased’s sister, who refused to disclose her name, said the family needed time and privacy to mourn their sister.
A resident, who asked not to be named, said Ludguo had requested N15, 000 from his December salary and went off the tangent because the request was not granted.
"He asked her to give him N15, 000 from his December salary and she said she just came back from US and did not have naira notes. She told him to be patient. He insisted that he needed the money to travel. Adeleke said he should let her be. A few minutes later, he sneaked to where the woman was relaxing and stabbed her in the chest."
