Residents send SOS to Ajimobi over rickety disposal trucks

Residents of Amuloko area of Ona Ara Local Government Area in Ibadan, have appealed to the Oyo State Governor, Mr. Abiola Ajimobi, to save them from avoidable accidents, resulting from faulty refuse disposal trucks.

According to the residents, these faulty trucks are always being hired by the government to convey refuse to a site along Akanran Road in Ibadan.

The call came after the unfortunate event of an accident that happened yesterday at the Amuloko Garage. The accident was caused by brake failure. The truck rammed into the office building of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Chairman of the NURTW, Mr. Ibrahim Adeoye, Amuloko/Orita Aprein axis, said: “The accident happened around 5.30. The driver of the truck and other workers had just offloaded the refuse. They were going to their office at Agodi Gate when the brake of the truck failed as they were descending a sloppy road.
"In order to avert colliding with a fuel lorry, the driver of refuse truck, swerved to into the market. If traders were here, you could imagine the rate of casualties that we would have recorded.”
The Traffic Police Officer, who handled the incident, Inspector Taiwo Olatunji, disclosed that the driver of the truck, Odejide Sunday, had been arrested.
