Cyclist attempts to abduct children returning from Redeem convention

Two siblings, returning from the just concluded Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Convection, have been narrowly escaped being kidnapped at the Mowe area of Ogun State.
Eye witnesses said that a motorcycle rider had tried to abduct the children, moments after their mother, left them to pick the third child across the road.
The woman and her children were returning from the RCCG Convention when the cyclist grabbed the children.
Although the woman was on the other side of the road, picking the third child, but she immediately sighted the moment the cyclist grabbed the two children, placed them on his motorcycle and zoomed.
She raised the alarm; other cyclists heard her cries of alarm and pursued the fleeing cyclist. They caught up with him. The suspect was identified as Haruna. The incident, which occurred on August 11, panicked the members of the community.
The cyclist was caught along Ofada Road and the kids retrieved from him.
A resident, Mr. Mathew Adeyanju said: “I was on my way to office when I saw people gathered at the bus stop. They were about to lynch the cyclist. If not for the vigilance of the children’s mother, the cyclist would have disappeared with the children. Before I knew what was happening, some youths had brought petrol and tyre. They were about to set him ablaze; fortunately, a policeman walking pass saw them. He rescued the suspect.
“We don’t know what he wanted to do with the kids. It was God and the quick observation of their mother that saved them. Police should check activities of motorcycle riders in the state. The rate of kidnapping in the community is increasing on a daily basis.”
Another resident, who identified himself as Mummy Tope, noted: “When the motorcycle rider was stripped, charms were found round his waist and pocket. I was at the bus stop around 6:30am, when I saw the mother and her children, returning from church. They were heading towards Mowe. I was shocked when the cyclist took the children and sped off. I have been selling at this bus stop for seven year now and I had never witnessed such an incident before. He wanted to abduct the kids.”
According to her, the abduction of children was on the increased. She urged the state’s commissioner of police, to beam his search light in different communities in the state.
When our correspondent visited the office of the Motorcycle Riders’ Association, the chairman was said to have gone to Abeokuta for a meeting.
