1 feared killed, 2 apprehended with weapons in Nasarawa

ONE feared killed and two persons apprehended last week in Asakio, the headquarters of Asakio development area of Nasarawa State.

The youth of the area were said to have handed over the culprits to the security agencies, with weapons, including pistols, machetes, axes, charms and illegal drugs recovered from them.

A military officer stationed to keep surveillance in the area confirmed the arrest, adding that those apprehended had been handed over to the police.

Those arrested were Umar Muhammed and Saidu Yahuza, from Gidan Buba, in Lafia East, as they were allegedly caught planting some charms near a shrine in the town.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that when security operatives were interrogating the three suspected miscreants, one of them attempted to escape and was consequently gunned down by the security men.

It will be recalled that Assakio was attacked in June by unknown mercenaries, destroying lives and properties worth millions of naira.

In a telephone interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the Assistant Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State command, Mr Cornelius Ocholi, denied knowledge of the arrest.
