The Oyekanmi family of Ode- Irele in
Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State has petitioned the state
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danladi Mshelbwala, over the death of their
daughter, Malomo Oyekanmi, who was allegedly murdered in Okitipupa.
The petition signed by Mr. Oyekanmi
Olawale on behalf of the family alleged that the police in Okitipupa
division was delaying investigation into the murder case. The deceased
was described as a successful busniesswoman.
However, the Police Public Relations
Officer in the state, Mr. Wole Ogodo, confirmed the development, saying
that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigating
Department in Akure for further investigation.
He said, “Investigation is ongoing and the command will get to the root of the matter very soon.”
The petition had alleged that Malomo,
47, was killed in controversial circumstances by her lover, Stephen
Edolor, last week but that the Police in the division were not helping
in the investigation.
The letter added that the deceased and
Edolor had been living together as lovers though without marital ties
but with the hope of getting married.
He said the family suspected that the
woman was killed when she asked Edolor to pay back N6m which she alleged
gave to him as loan some time ago.
The petitioner alleged that Edolor
promised to pay back the money on Tuesday January 22, 2013, only for the
family to learn of Malomo’s death the following day.
It explained that the accused took the
deceased to a private hospital in Okitipupa, claiming that the woman
slumped in the middle of the night and died before help could reach her
as the woman was declared dead at the hospital
The petition added in part, “It was
reported that Stephen Edolor left home on Tuesday late evening,22nd
January, 2013 to an unknown rented apartment in company with Malomo
Oyekanmi, as against their known house.
“Around 2.00 am on Wednesday 23rd
January, 2013, he took her dead corpse from the unknown apartment to one
Adeleke Private Hospital Okitipupa where the hospital management
conspired together with Stephen Edolor and others.
“They tampered with the body where
embalmment was carried out before the body was taken to General Hospital
Okitipupa where the corpse was finally deposited.
“The case was reported to the police by a
Good Samaritan who raised an alarm while police took custody of the
suspect in the person of Stephen Edolor.
“Edolor had since Wednesday 23rd
January, 2013 been in Okitipupa Police Station without the case referred
to Akure, Ondo State Police Headquarters, Homicide department for
necessary actions.” It added.
The petition expressed dissatisfaction over the way the Police in Okitipupa were allegedly handling the case.
It added, “In the course of dialogue
with the Police Authority in Okitipupa Division on Thursday 24th
January, 2013 the DCO who refused to disclose his name requested sum of
N100,000 as money for autopsy from as criteria for completion of police
report on the case.”
The family demanded that the case be
transferred to state Police Headquarters in Akure for proper
investigation in to the matter.
