Robbers kill AIT security man in Bauchi

A gang of armed robbers, on Sunday night, killed a securityman attached to the Africa Independent Telivision (AIT)/Raypower station in Bauchi, Mallam Idris Yusuf.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered on Monday that the incident occured between 10 and 11 p.m. on Sunday when the deceased came across the robbers near his house at Tirwun village in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

It was gathered that the robbers had sought his assistance for petrol for their car, which it was learnt was snatched from its owner.

The whole story, Nigerian Tribune learnt changed when the owner of the stolen car raised an alarm and in their attempt to escape from the scene, the deceased grabbed one of them unknown to him that he had a pistol on him with which he was shot in the abdomen.

Sympathisers were said to have rushed the deceased to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he passed on at about 4a.m. on Monday.

When contacted, the Bauchi State Police Command Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Auyo, said that he was unaware of the incident and referred journalists to the PPRO, Abass Abdullahi, who refused to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, the deceased had since been buried according to Islamic rites at the Gombe road Muslim burial ground in Bauchi.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident, the head of AIT/Raypower station in Bauchi, Mr Terver Tyav, told journalists that the deceased was a hardworking man, describing the late Yusuf as a Good Samaritan who wanted to use his money to buy fuel for those he thought were stranded men, not knowing that they were robbers who had robbered someone of his car.
