Dele Giwa’s mother, Madam Elekia dies at 87

Mother of the slain editor of the Newswatch Magazine, Dele Giwa, Madam Elekia Ayisat Giwa,  on Tuesday morning, died in Ikorodu area of Lagos State
The deceased, who was before her death, residing with her last daughter, Abibat Ronke Aboaba, was aged 87 years old.

The late Madam Giwa, at about 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, reportedly gave up the ghost at a hospital, after days of futile battle to save her life by the hospital‘s medical team

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the late Elekia Giwa died at Haruna Ogun Memorial Specialist Hospital in Bamimosu area of Ebute in Ikorodu.

Though the doctor on duty at the hospital declined comment , it was gathered by our reporter that the late Madam Giwa had been on admission at the hospital, before her death

The doctor on duty at the hospital, on Tuesday afternoon, insisted that only the managing director of the hospital , who was not around at the time , could speak on the death of the woman

“I don’t have the authority to say anything on the patient. I am aware that we have one Giwa but only the MD can speak after he might have got the consent of the family,” the doctor said.

A nurse , who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said that, she was not rushed here. “She had been on admission before she died.”

It will be recalled that the late Dele Giwa was in 1987, gruesomely murdered through a parcel bomb.

It was also gathered from the hospital that family members of the late Madam Giwa are making efforts to transfer the body to Ikorodu General Hospital, pending the burial

The death of the frontline journalist, Dele Giwa, during the military era, remained one of the unresolved murder cases  in Nigeria
