THE Nigerian Army is to promote about 10,000 soldiers between now and February 2013. 2,900 have already been promoted.
The
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, who
announced this on Monday while decorating 14 newly promoted
Brigadier-Generals from the army and defence headquarters, said that
promotions were not only meant for senior officers as it is also the
right of junior officers.
According to him, the selection process
is tedious and it takes a lot of hardwork and honesty to get to that
level, adding that promotion in the military is not like awarding
traditional titles.
While advising those who were not promoted,
the Army Chief said it is not the end of the road for them as vacancies
count a lot in deciding promotions.
He urged them not to despair but to put in more hardwork.
The
Chief of Army Staff noted that promotion in the military is not just a
reward but on merit since they still have much to offer the system and
that is why a total of 37 Colonels were promoted to the rank of
Brigadier Generals while others have been decorated by their various
commanders.
