Police arrest 4 cultists at Okene

THE  Kogi  State police command has arrested  four students of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Okene, suspected to be cult members.

The  arrested suspects  are Isah Nurudeen, Haruna Abdul, Danjuma Isa, Tanimu Ali and Ojowo Moody. They  were  arrested  while trying  to  allegedly forcefully initiate a student.

The  Police Public  Relations  Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, Assistant Superintendent of Police, while parading the suspects on Tuesday before newsmen,  said the students were arrested at a hideout in Lokoja in the night  when they were  trying to  force  one  Bamidele Salau to be initiated as a member.

According to him, it was  the  cry  of the  victim, who was  seriously beaten, that  attracted the neighbours, who alerted the special intelligence squad of the police commissioner, who, in turn, swooped on them in their hideout

Okasanmi, who gave the name of the cult group as ‘the Red Marine’, told newsmen that the victim was now at an undisclosed hospital in Lokoja.

The police later conducted a search on their hideout and a cutlass, an army camouflage, one police belt and eight red clothes were recovered from them.

Okasanmi, who said thecult group had been responsible for terrorising innocent citizens, warned parents to monitor their children and wards, especially those at the tertiary institutions.

He added that “if you see that your child is unusually living a life of seclusion or unusually quiet all the time, then you need to watch out.”
