Rape saga: GAFA hails army over soldiers’ dismissal

THE Global Association of Female Attorneys (GAFA), on Thursday, commended Military authorities for the prompt action it took against the four soldiers who were found guilty of abducting and raping some women in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The international president of GAFA, Chinelo Iriele, in a statement in Abuja, commended the Military for the court martial of the indicted soldiers and summarily dismissing them from service to serve as deterrent to others.
This is as she called for their immediate arraignment and prosecution on rape charges before a competent court.
According to her,   “the prompt action by the authorities has shown the Nigerian Army as a force that does not condone any act of indiscipline and misdemeanor by its men, we, therefore, charge police authorities to also act promptly by arraigning the dismissed officers before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
The brigade of guards, had on Tuesday, court-marshaled and dismissed the four soldiers for their involvement in the rape of some women following petitions by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), which had called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Commissioner of Police, FCT command, to investigate the allegations.
