2 pilots killed in Nigerian Airforce plane crash in Niamey

A Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet aircraft on a non-combatant mission crashed on Monday at Dargol Village at about 1.05 p.m. 60 kilometres West of Niamey, Niger Republic.
The two pilots on board the fighter jet also died.
The Alpha Jet aircraft is one of the four based in Niamey, Niger Republic as part of Africa-led Support Mission in Mali.
The Nigerian Air Force, who disclosed this in a statement signed by its Director, Defence Information, Brigadier Chris Olukolade, said investigation had commenced to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident, while further information on the crash will be made known as soon as the families of the deceased pilots were informed.
In another development, a gun-running suspect, Anthony Okolugbo, who claimed to be a corporal attached to 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze in Imo State, has owned up that he was a private video camera man before he was arrested in a hotel alongside three others in Asaba recently. He claimed the two pump action guns found with the gang were to be sold to a senator.
Okolugbo, a native of Ejeme  in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State was re-paraded in Asaba on Monday by police i Delta State where it confirmed that the suspect missed informed detectives.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  Lucky Uyabeme, said investigation proved that the false claim was part of the antics of the syndicate to beat the prying eyes  of the security agents.
The suspect told  newsmen that he acquired the military uniform he used in the crime during the recruitment exercise he attended in Zaria sometime ago through he was not successful.
Meanwhile, the command at the weekend clamped down on a gang  of suspected armed robbers cum cultists who specialised in raiding building sites, and  robbing hapless workers.
According to Uyabeme, the gang had terrorised sites at Ogbillo, in Asaba and Achalla-Ibusa
Leader of gang, one Ndubusis Ashikodi, now deceased was recently released from prison.
