Boko Haram’s leader, Shekau’s henchman killed
The Defence Headquarters yesterday confirmed the death of a terrorist believed to be a close associate of the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, just as two other terrorists connected to the sect leader are currently being held by the military.
An update on the ongoing military operations in the North, signed by Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brigadier General Chris Olukolade in Abuja disclosed that the deceased terrorist died while running an errand for his leader, Shekau.
Among the other two terrorists in the custody of the multinational Joint Task Force was a man confirmed to be a Nigerien national.
“The three were in the process of crossing the border to the neighbouring Niger Republic through the Lake Chad. The three have been confirmed to have operated in Baga and participated in perpetrating arson and other atrocities around the vicinity of the town. They have been relocating from place to place since they left Baga last month,” the DHQ stated.
It further disclosed that more troops of the police mobile force had joined the operations, as more towns were being secured in the operations to rid the nation’s territories of terrorist activities.
